Ex-Bearcats coach Minter among five new Indiana State assistantsNCAA Football Betting Lines07/15/2010 - Terre Haute, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former University of Cincinnati football coach Rick Minter has joined third-year Indiana State coach Trent Miles' staff as one of five new assistants. The 55-year-old Minter was named linebackers coach. In addition, Mike Simmonds and Harold Etheridge were named offensive line coaches, P.J. Volker outside linebackers coach and Clayton Dever offensive assistant coach. Minter spent 10 seasons as Cincinnati's head coach from 1994-2003, led the Bearcats to four postseason bowl games and was the winningest coach in the program's history. He also served as defensive coordinator twice at Notre Dame as well as with Ball State, South Carolina and Marshall. He was at Marshall in each of the past two seasons and served as the Thundering Herd's interim head coach to end the 2009 season when they defeated Ohio, 21-17, in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. "All of our new coaches have a wealth of experience at the highest levels of collegiate football and, more importantly, have proven to be great role models during their careers," Miles announced in a school news release. "The Sycamore football program is taking a huge step forward with the additions of these experienced and committed coaches." Indiana State opens its season Sept. 4 against St. Joseph's (Indiana), visits Cincinnati on Sept. 11 and, after an off week, opens play in the Missouri Valley Football Conference on Sept. 25 at Western Illinois. The Sycamores were 1-10 last season, including 1-7 in the MVFC.
