Detroit Pistons 2010 Draft Preview

Basketball Betting Lines

06/21/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - John Kuester's first year in the Motor City was a bit of a disaster, resulting in just 27 wins and a birth in the NBA Draft Lottery, an unfamiliar position for a franchise that had gone to the postseason eight consecutive times.

It seems clear that Pistons president Joe Dumars is intent of rebuilding and has been shopping long-time stars Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince in the hopes of getting some salary cap relief.

With or without Hamilton the backcourt will be manned by a couple of solid players in Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon, and the team has enough on the wings to get by.

Center is a different story, however. Since the aging Ben Wallace and Kwame Brown were the big men in Detroit last year and both are unrestricted free agents, you have to think Dumars goes big at No. 7 with Kansas center Cole Aldrich looking like a nice fit.

Aldrich is a legitimate pivot with top-tier rebounding and defensive skills in the mold of a Joel Przybilla. He is limited offensively, however.

Players under contract: G Ben Gordon; G Richard Hamilton; G Rodney Stuckey; F Austin Daye; F Jonas Jerebko; F Tayshaun Prince; F DaJuan Summers; F-C Charlie Villanueva

Free agents: G Will Bynum (restricted); G Chucky Atkins (unrestricted); F-C Chris Wilcox (player option); C Kwame Brown (unrestricted); C Ben Wallace (unrestricted)

Draft picks: 1st round (7th overall), 2nd round (36th overall)

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game

How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Green was going into a feet-first hook slide when he was knocked unconscious by a thunderous, head-snapping hit from Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.

The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).

Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.

The Chiefs lost 9-6 to Denver last week as an 11-point underdog. The combined score was well UNDER the posted over/under total (38).

Larry Johnson
rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries. Damon Huard completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
