Cubs manager Piniella criticizes baseball analyst

Baseball Betting Lines

06/11/2010 -

CHICAGO (AP) -Cubs manager Lou Piniella has criticized longtime Chicago baseball analyst Steve Stone for questioning how he's handling prized rookie outfielder Tyler Colvin.

Piniella took exception Friday to recent comments Stone made to Comcast SportsNet when he reiterated Colvin should be playing regularly, something he has said repeatedly.

Piniella pointed out he's won ``over 1,800 games as a manager'' and is ``not a damn dummy.'' He questioned Stone's credentials, wondering ``what job has he had in baseball besides talking on television or radio?''

Stone says he believes Colvin needs 30 at-bats a week, either in the majors or the minors.

Colvin was not in the lineup Friday against the White Sox. He was batting .290 with six homers and 16 RBIs in limited playing time.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
