Braves activate Heyward from DL

Heyward from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday.
The rookie sensation has been out since injuring his left thumb while sliding
into third base in a win over Arizona on May 14. After trying to play through
the injury Atlanta placed the 20-year-old on the DL on June 29.
Heyward has taken the major leagues by storm, hitting .251 with 11 homers and
45 RBI in 71 games this season that led him to gain a starting spot in this
year's All-Star Game in Anaheim. However, due to the injury, he was replaced
on the roster.
In a related move, the club optioned infielder Brandon Hicks to Triple-A
Gwinnett. He went 0-for-5 with one walk in 13 games with the big club this
season.
